Be Bold, Be Charismatic, Do Your Homework
I saw this book in the weekly Bookbub email I receive. I bought and read it while on the beach over Christmas.
Yes, I realize it's something of a long form listicle. I'm a sucker for a fast list of things I could be doing to improve. It's great to open these books up from time to time, flip through and find something that resonates.
Among the many great suggestions, the one that is ringing in my head is "Do Your Homework."
"If the event you're attending - regardless of how big or small, whether professional or social - has a dominant theme, do some research on the subject beforehand. Before going to a movie party, read about the film. It pays to be well-informed about the topic people will be talking about. You will fit in more naturally, you'll have more to say, your company will be more coveted, and you will be less bored yourself."
It's easier now to know a little something about everything that ever before. We can whip out our phones, and in a few minutes know enough about any topic to carry a meaningful conversation.
If we go to a condo sales gallery opening, we can know a little something about what was there before the condo was built, the developer, and the sales team.
"Hey I saw there was a zoning variance for this condo to be built, how did that change the construction plans?"
Say that to the developer who is likely proud of his maneuvering through the system and BAM! We're already more interesting.
Not only more interesting to others, but more informed about our profession, and our passion - real estate.
Send your clients my way for a fast closing, a sensible underwrite and a smooth mortgage process.
